The Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute, the Cyprus Youth Board, the Larnaca Tourism Board and Geoimaging Ltd, in a 2nd consecutive year are organizing a student competition for primary schools in the Larnaca District, for the promotion of a reef with the title “Give a Name to a Reef”.
The initiative regards primary school students ranging from grade 3 until grade 6 and is under the auspices of the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research (DFMR).
The competition will give the children of the district the opportunity to be actively involved in naming a natural reef. This will inspire them, help to bring the children closer to the marine environment and also to increase their sensitivity towards marine life and its biodiversity. The reef is located in the bay of Larnaca and specifically just in front of ‘Kastella’ Beach, the shallow and clear marine waters of which, are enticing to those interested in snorkeling or diving. The location is destined to be a point of attraction for those involved with these activities.
