International Conference: “Technology for Maritime Surveillance and Emergency Management” – Press Release

The University of Algarve welcomes international experts in Maritime Surveillance and Emergency Response

The International Conference “Technology for Maritime Surveillance and Emergency Management” was held on 12 and 13 November at the University of Algarve, in Faro, Portugal.

Topical and pertinent topics related to the sector were discussed for a day and a half, such as: Blue Growth and the Algarve Region, Maritime Surveillance Industry 4.0, Financing Opportunities for Maritime Surveillance and Ocean Technologies, the Portuguese Contingency Plan “Clean Sea”, the ICS Emergency Management Model, among many others.

The range of speakers included experts and entities of national importance, such as the Directorate-General for Political Affairs and the National Maritime Authority, and internationally renowned, such as the European Maritime Safety Agency, the Piraeus Port Authority, the FEPORTS (Port Foundation Valencia) among others. It also counted on the participation of leading companies in the sector at the international level that presented cutting-edge technologies used for maritime surveillance, prevention and emergency response.

The relevance of the communications and the importance of the speakers attracted participants from Portugal, Spain and also from other MED countries (Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy and Malta), in a total of nearly 70 persons.

Participants were also able to enjoy a pleasant social program that included a dinner with regional and Mediterranean delicacies at the Tertúlia Algarvia restaurant and a cocktail with live music at the Columbus bar in Faro.

The international conference was a joint organization between CRIA and CIMA, within the framework of PROteuS (Promoting Security and Safety by Creating a MED Cluster on Maritime Surveillance) e CIU3A (University Innovation Centre Andaluzia, Alentejo and Algarve), co-funded respectively by the programs INTERREG Mediterranean e INTERREG POCTEP Spain-Portugal.
