Last week a major L2M demonstrator was successfully executed during the international Search and Rescue (SAR) exercise “ARGONAUT-2017”

The SAR exercise scenario dealt with severe Maritime accident at open sea on a passenger Ship, during which SAR Operations as well as MEDEVAC operations were carried out, in order to locate and rescue people in distress.

Specifically, ten (10) Air SAR and twelve (12) Naval Units as well as personnel of the Republic of Cyprus as the Host Nation, Greece, France, Arabic Republic of Egypt, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America, participated in the SAR PHASE of the Exercise “ARGONAUT-2017”, under the operational control and coordination of the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC). The coordination of the operations as well as the Crisis Management during the SAR PHASE, were carried out from the newly established Coordination Center, “Zenon”, which is operated by our L2M partner JRCC (Joint Rescue Coordination Center of the Republic of Cyprus)

The demo was a great success, since the UAV was successfully launched from a catapult installed on a Cyprus Navy boat, located the life jackets in the sea and communicated in real time their position to the coordination center which was more than 50km away.
